BETTER THAN A SKID-STEER? OF COURSE.
Posi-Track 4810 Out-Performs Conventional Equipment in Most Situations
GRAND RAPIDS, MN (February 21, 2001) -- Better than a skid-steer? Of course. With its Maximum Traction and Support SystemTM undercarriage, the Posi-Track 4810, the largest and most powerful of ASV's All Purpose Crawlers, delivers unmatched traction, greater digging/earthmoving ability and faster cycle times on virtually any job site – often out-performing even the most powerful skid-steer.
"It's fairly common for contractors to compare ASV's rubber tracked Posi-Track to a skid steer loader, even though there are significant differences." said Brad Lemke, ASV's Director of New Product Development. "After all, we designed Posi-Tracks to be the next generation replacement for skid steers, offering more stability, traction and productivity – all while reducing surface impact."
The Posi-Track 4810 is the result of ASV's innovation in rubber-tracked undercarriages, which has been in development for over 15 years. The patent-pending MTSS undercarriage uses 18-inch wide rubber tracks and 48-wheeled contact points to transfer the weight of the machine to the ground. As a result, the 4810 operates with incredible traction and stability not found in other machines, and with a ground pressure of only 3 lbs per square inch. This gives the Posi-Track more control for conventional work as well as fine grading; multiple levels of suspension for greater load control and an smoother ride; and exceptional productivity, with high rimpull, excellent breakout force and fast cycle times.
"A lot of contractors first put a Posi-Track on their job to help out when ground conditions are too wet, steep or difficult for their skid steers," said Lemke. "But once they put the Posi-Track to work, these same contractors usually discover there are many more reasons to keep it on their job, even under good operating conditions."
In addition, with a Caterpillar 3054T engine delivering 105 hp/78 kW, the Posi-Track 4810 has the power to handle a very wide range of jobs in the broadest range of conditions. And, unlike virtually any other machine out there, the standard model comes equipped with both low (19 gpm/72 Lpm) flow and high (30 gpm/114 Lpm) flow auxiliary hydraulics. The 4810's stability and traction make it the ideal platform for running high-production attachments like brushcutters, snowblowers, trenchers and flail mowers.
Another advantage the Posi-Track has is an integral frame mount designed to accept specialized work tools that a skid steer loader cannot handle. One example is a six-way dozer blade, which is a perfect match for the rubber track undercarriage. So is a three-point hitch and PTO for pulling implements – ideal for many agriculture applications since the Posi-Track can be operated bi-directionally with a reversing seat.
All of this allows the 4810 to improve a variety of tasks on virtually any job site:
Fast Cycle Times
- Whether grading, digging or backfilling, the 4810 provides extremely fast cycle times. Thanks to its two, independent hydraulic drive motors controlled through a dual hydrostatic transmission, the machine moves quickly from zero to six mph. It can normally be operated with higher travel speeds than wheeled machines because the smooth-operating suspension soaks up most surface irregularities. In addition, with the Posi-Track's ability to counter-rotate, its turning radius is minimal.
Excellent Blade Precision
- When used as a dozer, blade precision is excellent. Operators are located with a superb view of the blade and surface. In addition, because of its suspension and stable platform, control of the blade is exceptional – unlike a skid steer which bounces. And the Posi-Track can blade near houses, walls and other structures without causing damage.
Ease of Movement
- The 4810 can move from site to site unrestricted. Because of its low psi, the machine crawls over sensitive terrain without harming the underlying surface. By comparison, a steel-tracked dozer can easily damage pavements or turf. Most wheeled machines also damage turf and are best confined to flat, dry surfaces.
Manpower Reduction
- Jobs that once required several additional employees for hand work can often be dramatically reduced. For instance, while it may take several laborers to do hand grading near a retaining wall, the Posi-Track's low ground pressure allows the machine to work right up against the wall without pushing it out.
Stable Operating Platform
- The Posi-Track's lower center of gravity and the large ground contact area provides a highly stable platform to use a wide variety of attachments. The machine's loader-mounted quick coupler has an industry-standard interface, so attachment of a wide range of work tools is possible.
"With the combination of traction and power for heavy construction jobs; high flotation for wet, soft terrain; and sensitivity for work on turf, the Posi-Track 4810 has ushered in a new age of compact construction equipment," said Lemke. "For contractors who want to grow their business by improving efficiency and taking on a wider range of jobs, the Posi-Track is the ideal alternative to a skid steer loader.
ASV designs, manufactures and sells All Purpose Crawlers, All Surface Loaders and related accessories and attachments. The Posi-Track 4810 is available through most North American Caterpillar Dealers, some Latin American Caterpillar Dealers and some independent ASV dealers.
